I've been experimenting with different supports for acrylic. Canvas and illustration board have their advantages and disadvantages. I had to order a boatload of art supplies last month, so I picked up a trial pack of small gessoboards. This is the first attempt.
I love gessoboard. It's smooth, but not too smooth, and it doesn't need to be framed behind glass. More expensive than canvas or illustration board, though. Worth it, I think.
Nice work! I love gessoboard and that's really the only thing I use for acrylics. Oils work great with it too, though canvas is also a favorite support of mine for oils.
Ampersand is going to own me soon enough. I use aquaboard sometimes, I love the smooth clayboard and scratchboard, and now I'm getting hooked on gessoboard.
Ah yes, I've heard so much good about them! I actually create my own gessoboards (my dad buys large sheets of hardboard and cuts them down for me) and then I gesso them on all sides. But I did buy one of their scratchboards, as I'm hoping to try that out.
