13 by 18 inches Mixed Media (ink, watercolour and coloured pencil) on cold-press illustration board Original for sale!
Female peacocks don't get nearly enough attention. The males certainly are beautiful, the but the peahens have a very beautiful subtle colouring, and the pattern of their feathers combined with their posture and movement deserve some appreciation.
This piece took a lot longer than I thought it would but it was worth it, there are a few things I think I need to create a new technique for but really for the most part I love it. I used a couple layers of india ink for the background and then a few layers of burnt sienna over it to soften it and warm it up a bit. With the exception of the breast feathers and some highlights, the peahen is all coloured pencil. The breast feathers are several layers of coloured pencil over a watercolour wash. I was experimenting with quite a few different techniques to achieve all the different textures and colour variation. Hope you like
This is the first of a four or five painting series. You can see WIP of this painting on my blog. This painting is for sale but it needs to go to a show so it can't be shipped until June.
Those feathers are insane >.> Do you think you'd be able to get a close up of them? They just look gorgeous. I could just get lost in studying the background alone!

This is beautiful... sensual. I continue to love these ink backgrounds you use... they look so amazing in combination with the softer more muted foregrounds.
