Coloured pencil and watercolour pencil on #80 Bainbridge
Original for sale!
I think it's important to point out that I in no way intended for it to be this...purple. Anyway.
Another piece to experiment with coloured pencil media, this time coloured pencils and watercolour pencils on illustration board. I first did a fairly dark layer of watercolour pencils (Faber-Castell), wet it, and then applied layers of Prismacolours over it for the details and texture. At this point the background was white, and I was very tempted to leave it like that. Had the bird been anything but white, I would have left it like that.
So in summery, the background is too dark and too purple (it was laid in with watercolour pencils, wet, and in places blotted with a tissue). I guess the important thing is that I did indeed learn a lot about the medium I was using. I took notes.
I kinda like the background being dark Even if you didn't intend to do it that way, it still looks awesome. Especially since you left a part of it blank, its has a nice contrast. And I really like the textures in the back too! The bird and branches came out looking great as well. I always struggle with trees. Augh, bark But I think you did a really great job with them

I agree with you the purple kind of overwhelms the bird which is the center of attention. I am not sure how you could fix this either. The bird kind of looks like he is watching storm clouds rolling in. I suppose just like anything it is a matter of taste. I bet there are a lot of people that would like the drawing.
