Acrylic on stretched canvas
Original for sale!

I did an acrylic pet commission a little bit ago and it reminded how much I love working in acrylic. Ever since I did that mural last year my acrylic technique has improved considerably, and I wanted to try doing a few paintings again.

Also, I uses so much damn matte medium in this painting...it was just ridiculous.

Amazing, I love the texture of the feathers on the bird's head... Great work

Absolutely gorgeous painting - totally thought it was in another medium!
Would love to see the brush strokes up close, I'm curious to see how you managed even half of that.

what do you use the matte medium for?

Thin layers of acrylic. It's basically similar to the binder the pigment of acrylic paint sits in, so you use it to thin down acrylics without them becoming too watery or unstable.

Ok. Interesting. I have used it to seal wood to paint on but I have never used it to think paint. Does is affect the drying time like a retarder would?

It does a little (which is typically a good thing). I use Liquitex Matte Medium. I have never heard of anyone using it to seal wood before. Why do you do that?
